ENCOURAGING SUnRISE project builds on the emerging needs of companies in the Wood and Furniture Industry to give employment to young graduated generations (in HE and VET) covering, in doing this, two objectives or challenges: students technically prepared and students motivated to work in this specific sector.

ENCOURAGING SUnRISE project builds on the emerging needs of companies in the Wood and Furniture Industry to give employment to young graduated generations (in HE and VET) covering, in doing this, two objectives or challenges: students technically prepared and students motivated to work in this specific sector.

To achieve both challenges, technical and attitudinal, the SUnRISE project will explore the use of gamification and the Simulation Learning Environment, which has already seen successful applications in other domains. In particular, ENCOURAGING SUnRISE will introduce gamification to the Wood and Furniture Sector. The project will be the first step to trigger modernisation in initial and continuous VET in the sector through gamification and simulation tools. This will offer a chance for alignment of the needs and opportunities that traditional industries offer through innovative didactic approaches. ENCOURAGING SUnRISE will reinforce the top skills that the most outstanding workers of the sector usually display and it will show it in an attractive way. Moreover, it will be a free content available in different platforms, websites and languages, allowing its wide use across Europe.

Objectives

ENCOURAGING SUnRISE has been designed with the aim to support the development and the implementation of an innovative practice, a novel simulation tool for training and improving skills in furniture and woodworking industries.

  • List of 10 skills that it can be acquired in a simulation computer game using different active tasks, related with furniture and the will be transversal

  • Training path with corresponding units to acquire those skills and tasks to be used in the simulation computer game

  • A reality background about furniture sector to be implemented in the simulation tool. With this, it will be achieved that people with less experience could understand how a furniture enterprise works inside

  • Developed course in a simulation videogame based in work environment in furniture entreprise with the objective of acquire or improve some key or top skills

  • Finally, the final result is a new methodology that a VET teacher could use in class to show process in furniture, tasks in work environment, a furniture enterprise could employ it for illustrate some previous aspects to new empployees, or an entrepreneur could use by his/her own to learn some important clue in furniture. Obviously, the main results of the IO could be used for other profits.
